Find out what our Guest Bloggers are getting up to. Throughtout the year we will be following the progress of our Guest Bloggers as they find a placement or keep us updated as to what they are doing on their placement. Click here to read all entries from our bloggers or click here to meet them.

I’ve been at Microsoft for about a month now and doing my job role for around 2 weeks. I’m still learning a lot, as there are set procedures that need to be followed when doing pretty much anything as with any large organisation. Luckily my team are really friendly and I can ask anyone questions and they all help me. If it’s one thing I’ve learnt so far is – it’s ok to ask questions and you shouldn’t feel like you’re asking too much! It’s better to ask and get it right than struggle on your own and get it wrong.

So what am I doing now? I’m currently working on a marketing campaign for DreamSpark which requires a lot of organising! And I’m also going on holiday soon, so I need to make sure everything is wrapped up and done before I go as no-one will be there to cover things while I’m away. Something else you will no doubt learn whilst on placement! I also work with Microsoft student partners and play a big role in managing and executing the programme.
What other stuff am I doing? Well I applied for an intern role here at Microsoft, which I know a lot of big companies have, and successfully got an extra role. An intern role is something you can take on outside of your assigned job role, for example I’m working on recruitment support, which means I may be coming to a campus near you to talk about my experience in person and encourage others to apply. It enables you to challenge yourself in other areas, and gain skills outside of your role. There are so many opportunities in Microsoft to do pretty much anything you want. I’m also half way to becoming a Microsoft certified master (sounds fancy!) by taking all the Office exams.
I still have a lot to learn though, and new projects to take on!
Will keep you posted…
