This year we have decided to work formally with Bright Futures and their campus societies… For those of you who don’t know, Bright Futures are student run societies (guided by a national body – Bright Futures Resourcing) aimed at maximising their members’ employability skills & networking with potential employers (click here for more). RateMyPlacement had a bit of exposure to the Bright Futures societies over the 08/09 academic year in the form of a presentation at Essex Uni and a “dinner with industry” in Swansea, the main thing we noted that these were events attended by bright students run by students who were even more switched on.

As sponsors of the Bright Futures societies we were invited to attend the Bright Futures Society Awards at the Deloitte Building behind Fleet Street in the City of London. The Awards event itself, expertly organised by Eve Hyland, was a bit of a mixed day aimed at training the new Bright Futures committees, introducing committees to corporates and Awarding those societies who have done great things throughout the year. We got to again meet up with the few societies we had contact with previously, and also establish new contacts with committees for next year.

Bright Futures Awards

When it came to the actual Awards itself, there were no surprises to see the winners of the big Awards were the societies who were the first to get in touch with us and invite us to their events, clearly they were good to spot an opportunity to develop relationships and offer something to their members. So, congratulations to Tara Sura from Essex who won President of the Year and Swansea Uni who won society of the year, we look forward to working closely with both societies this academic year. What was a little more surprising was when RateMyPlacement.co.uk got a nomination for corporate of the year by one of the societies, unfortunately we didn’t win, but we will change that next time.

We think the Bright Futures societies will be another great way of getting the RateMyPlacement.co.uk website viewed by talented and career focused students and we look forward to working with the societies, their committees and members.
