Chris

First week… Finished. And, surprisingly, it’s actually gone really quickly.

So, Monday morning, I show up. Slightly nervous, I hadn’t had any confirmation about starting and was slightly unsure? However, got there, first impressions – really nice place, smart, modern office. BUT, I discover… they weren’t expecting me. Apparently there was a mix up with dates. Not the best start.

I sat and waited and thought this was going to be a long week…

I was wrong. It’s actually been really good. Besides the minor mix up, I’ve really enjoyed myself. The team is young, professional and strikes me as really driven. They are a small, compact group – all very ambitious. As the week’s gone on I’ve learnt more and more, and I’m starting to get more of an insight into the PR world.

Chaotic Office

Expectations before I got there was I’d be working in a madhouse. Phone’s ringing, people shouting and rushing about. But, in fact it’s the complete opposite. It’s generally quite a quiet atmosphere in the office where you can hum along to the music in the background. It’s relaxingly calm, considering the industry I’m working in. Nevertheless, I’ve enjoyed my time more and more as I’ve stayed on. I was invited along (like a regular member of the team) to the boardroom for a week’s briefing/summary as to how things went (over a free beer, to my liking) of the week’s events. Here the team really came to life and bounced ideas and banter around the room – showing me a solid foundation I was learning from.

Though my tasks haven’t been the most complicated, making databases, ringing winners from competitions, researching clients and organising quotations for events – they are all relevant to the overall picture of what we are trying to achieve.

BUT… I. Have. To. Get. Up. Early. Not fun… In complete contrast to staggering in from the early hours of uni life, the early hours involve alarms and showers. I barely knew this time of day existed. The 9-6 routine hasn’t dragged too badly either. Though I thought I would hate it, it’s been quite a nice set routine. However, I’ve only been doing it for a week.

I won’t lie; I am looking forward to the weekend and my own time, yet… Oddly looking forward to next week.
