Manny

After what seems like a long period of absence, I am back to share some more great news with the RateMyPlacement crowd:

5 rejections, 3 phone interviews and 1 assessment centre later, I have finally secured my placement! It seems like there has been quite a rush of people getting offers recently, so when my phone call finally came a few weeks ago it was a huge weight off my shoulders! The contract came through the post yesterday, and it felt like christmas all over again :)

Reading Ali’s advice on deciding whether to accept a job or not certainly ticked a lot of boxes for me, and I couldn’t agree more with what he says. If you’ve any doubts about whether a placement is you, think very very carefully before accepting. Personally, I couldn’t say ‘yes’ fast enough :)

Maybe Phil's new boss

The position I have is with General Motors as a Fleet Market Analyst: not what I originally applied for, but having had a chat with the current intern it seems like something I could get along with nicely. Of course, GM has had quite a bit of worrying press lately, and I can’t deny I didn’t think about this when deciding whether to accept. At the end of the day though, I’d rather have a secure placement at a reasonably secure company than no placement at all!

If anyone else out there is starting at GM in July 2009, get in touch in the comments :)

Finally, good luck to everyone out there who is still hunting! It might seem bleak, but when things do happen they happen quickly, so stick with it!

  • Just like to say well done to Phil for bagging himself a placement and hopefully many of you will be getting similar phone calls in the following weeks and months.

Also, I love the fact he has put a link to the Tehran Times, I didn’t think we would be linking to an Iranian newspaper when we started RateMyPlacement up… I guess it goes to show what a massive company GM are.

  • Note to all who read this, GM had been following Phil’s blog so knew all about him prior to confirming his offer.

Anyone else fancy being a guest blogger?!

  • Congrats Phil on securing your placement with GM! Having done a 12 month placement there myself, I can fully recommend the scheme.

Don’t worry too much about what you’re hearing in the press about GM, it’s very unlikely that it will affect your experience there.

  • Cheers Faz! I’m sure I’m gonna have a great time there.

To anyone else who’s joining GM in summer 2009, I’ve set up a facebook group here: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=79655971800

  • Good idea, let us know if there’s anything we can do to help you promote your facebook group, one thing we may look to do is link company profiles to facebook groups… If you want to link to the GM reviews or your blog posts feel free.
